Rovaniemi – a city at the bosom of nature

Rovaniemi is the lively capital of Finnish Lapland and embraces two major rivers right on the Arctic Circle. This international city is developing constantly and has always been a gateway to Lapland. Here, modern services join cultural and natural elements to form a unique totality. The wilderness of Lapland is a mere ten minutes from the city center, beckoning adventurers to come to its untouched expanses. The most exciting Arctic Circle crossing is also located in Rovaniemi; come to Santa Claus’ Village, where Lapland’s most famous inhabitant, Father Christmas himself, is on hand to welcome international visitors.

Tour Itinerary


  • Airport Transfer to your hotel without guide
  • Accommodation at Hotel Aakenus. Hotel Aakenus is a family hotel, located in a peaceful area, close to the Rovaniemi town centre (400 metres). All rooms have a bathroom, TV and free wireless internet. In some rooms there is also a fridge. Hotel rooms, apartments and public areas of hotel has been renovated.
  • The evening sauna is always included in the room rate. The hotel sauna, heated specially for our guests in the evening, is located on the bottom floor. There are separate sauna turns for men and women.
  • Dinner at the hotel in a buffet table.

  • 10:00-14:00 tour “Memory of Lapland”
  • Visit a local Lappish home, handicraft workshop and Santa Claus Village. Today you will discover what is inside the wooden walls of a traditional Lappish home, as a local family warmly welcomes you to step in. During the visit, you will be introduced to the art of reindeer antler carving, as your hosts are specialised in handicrafts using local natural materials. Your self-prepared piece of art you may, of course, take home as a keepsake! Afterwards we will head to the Santa Claus Village, where you will have an opportunity to meet the most famous Finn, Santa Claus himself, and have time to wander around the village dotted with Finnish design and souvenir shops.

  • 11:00-16:00 Excursion to Ranua Wildlife Park.
    Get familiar with the fauna of Finnish Lapland! Lapland’s pristine and picturesque landscapes provide habitat for many wild animals and birds including magnificent bears, wolves, lynx, eagles, cranes and swans. Visiting the Ranua Wildlife Park you will meet the only polar bears living in Finland, as well as 50 other arctic and Northern animal species. Ranua Wildlife Park is a Zoo but is also committed to protecting endangered animal species and helping encourage people to be part of protection programs. They also nurse and take care of animals injured in the wild. The tour at the Park will end at a restaurant where a delicious home-style buffet lunch will be waiting for you.
  • Private transfer will take you back to the airport.

Terms and Conditions

  • The tour is designed for participating delegates and accompanying persons attending the JCI 2019 World Congress.
  • All sightseeing tours include informative English speaking commentary, all entry fees and meals where specified. Comfortable shoes and warm clothing are recommended for all tours. For any outdoor tours, we recommend that participants wear water and windproof warm clothing.
  • Places on all tours are limited and will be allocated strictly in order of receipt of payment.
  • Where participants cancel their tour bookings prior to 1st October, 2019, payment will be refunded in full. Thereafter, no refunds will be made.
